Meet the 2026 Inductees
Kayla Scott (Class of 2008)
A 2008 graduate of Azle High School, Kayla Scott established a legacy of athletic and academic excellence that earned her induction into the 2026 Azle ISD Athletic Hall of Fame. Ranking 10th in her graduating class, Scott stood out as a formidable two-sport athlete, earning All-District honors in both basketball and soccer throughout all four years of high school. As a star midfielder, she propelled the 2006 Lady Hornet soccer team to the program’s first-ever playoff victory, launching a long streak of consecutive playoff appearances. On the basketball court, Scott was named team MVP her senior year after setting a school record with a 38-point game and hitting nine three-pointers in a single contest.
Scott carried that competitive spirit to Howard Payne University, appearing in nearly 100 games for the Lady Jackets. During her collegiate career, HPU captured two conference regular-season titles, a conference tournament championship, and advanced to the Round of 32 in the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament. In 2013, she earned All-Conference honors and was named Conference Player of the Week after delivering an electrifying 24-point performance in a single half, anchoring the last team in program history to win a conference championship.
Transitioning seamlessly into collegiate athletics leadership, Scott built an impressive resume in coaching and basketball operations. She began as an assistant coach at Western Texas College before moving to Division II Cameron University, where she helped guide the team to its first NCAA Tournament berth in nearly a decade in 2015. Joining head coach Mark Kellogg at Stephen F. Austin State University in 2016 as Director of Basketball Operations, she contributed to six consecutive 23+ win seasons, two regular-season titles, a Southland Tournament title, and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. Following a stint at the University of Arizona, Scott rejoined Kellogg at West Virginia University, helping lead the Mountaineers to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and second-round berths. Her remarkable career reached another pinnacle during the 2025–26 season, when WVU captured its first Big 12 Tournament Championship since 2017, earning a No. 4 seed and hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament before a sold-out home crowd of 14,000 fans.
Waylon Hall (Class of 1989)
A 1989 graduate of Azle High School, Waylon Hall was a multi-sport standout from 1986 to 1989 who cemented his place in Hornet athletic history through unmatched determination, extraordinary versatility, and enduring school records. Hall earned a varsity starting position on the football team as a sophomore and remained a cornerstone of the gridiron program throughout his high school career. During his senior season, he averaged 100 rushing yards per game before a knee injury abruptly ended his football journey, leaving behind a legacy defined by leadership, skill, and grit.
Hall achieved his greatest athletic milestones on the track, a sport he had competed in since seventh grade. His high school career culminated in a monumental senior season in 1989, when he cleared 15 feet, 7 inches in the pole vault—shattering Terry Porter's 19-year-old school record and ranking among the top five high school pole vaulters in Texas. That same season, Hall helped set another school record as part of the 4x100-meter relay team with a time of 43.2 seconds, and both marks continue to stand today. Following graduation, Hall earned a track scholarship to Odessa Junior College, competing in pole vaulting from 1989 to 1991. His induction into the 2026 Azle ISD Athletic Hall of Fame honors a timeless legacy of resilience, excellence, and Hornet pride.
Congratulations, Kayla and Waylon!
