On Saturday, October 25, several new members were inducted into the Azle ISD Athletic Hall of Fame – members of the 1959 and 1960 Azle High School State-Champion Cross Country teams, Terry Wolf (Class of 1977), and Gary Rushing (Class of 1969). A reception was held following the ceremony to honor the 2025 inductees with food and refreshments provided and served by Azle High School Culinary Arts students.
The Azle ISD Athletic Hall of Fame was formed in 2014 to recognize members of the Azle ISD family who have distinguished themselves as outstanding contributors to Azle ISD athletics on and off the field of play, instilling a continuing commitment to and the promotion of the beliefs that Azle ISD values. Meet the 2025 Inductees:
1959 AHS State-Champion Cross Country team members were James Rollins, Douglas Brown, Jimmy Mouer, Roe Ansley, and James Hardy.
1960 AHS State-Champion Cross Country team members were James Hardy, Claude Conwell, Garry Morris, Steve Williams, Jimmy Stewart, Steve Haley, Jerry Lambert, Roe Ansley, and Charles Harrington.
Both championship teams were coached by Don Hood (2022 Hall of Fame Inductee).
Terry Wolf graduated from Azle High School in 1977. While at AHS, Wolf was a member of the student council and the National Honor Society. He was on the A Honor Roll all four years and received the National High School Award for Excellence.
Wolf played football, basketball, track, and baseball. In track, he held the record for the 100-yard dash, and in baseball, he held the stolen base record. He was never thrown out attempting to seal a base from his junior year in high school to the end of his junior college. He graduated college in 1981, started coaching in 1982, and is currently in his 42nd year of coaching.
Gary Rushing graduated from Azle High School in 1969. Rushing played football, basketball, baseball, golf, and ran track. He led the state in interceptions and earned numerous accolades, including All-District, All-State, and Tarrant County All-Star team.
Rushing played football in college and went on to become an outstanding football coach. After coaching in public education for 32 years, he started coaching at private schools and is now in his 51st year.
