At the Azle ISD School Board meeting on June 16, Azle ISD Police Chief Darren Brockway had the honor of presenting Sergeant Steve Holland with the Police Life Saving Award for his heroic actions to save a life during a sensitive incident involving a person in distress in April.
Holland was nominated for this special award by the City of Azle Police Department after several Azle PD officers witnessed him jump into action without hesitation, putting his own safety at risk and ultimately saving a life. His quick thinking and willingness to go above the call of duty prevented the situation from becoming a tragedy.
The Life Saving Award recognizes selfless acts of bravery and service that exceed the normal expectations of a job performance - interventions by an officer that directly result in saving a life.
Examples include, but are not limited to, performing CPR, stopping severe bleeding, or rescuing individuals in distress.
Congratulations, Sergeant Holland! Azle ISD is blessed to have you on our team! #WeAreAzle
