Azle ISD is pleased to announce that Summer Mathis has been selected as the districtβs Chief Financial Officer, replacing Matt Adams, who is retiring in August after six years in Azle ISD and 31 years in public education.
Mathis comes to Azle from Boyd ISD, where she has served as the Chief Financial Officer since 2022. She has worked in public education as a CFO for nine years. Prior to her work in education, she worked for the YMCA for 17 years in various roles, including Business Operations Director.
She earned a Bachelorβs degree in Business Management and Marketing from Tarleton State University and holds two certifications from the Texas Association of School Business Officials.
She and her husband, Mark, have two daughters and a son - Taylor, Brock, and Carli. Mark works as the Director of Human Resources in Springtown ISD. In her free time, Summer enjoys traveling to support her daughterβs select basketball team, spending quality time with family and friends, and watching true crime documentaries.
"I am thrilled to join Azle ISD as Chief Financial Officer and excited to serve this unique, vibrant community,β said Mathis. βAzleβs 'large small town' atmosphere has always been something I deeply admireβwhere personal connections and community spirit thrive. I look forward to supporting the districtβs mission with strong financial stewardship, ensuring that we make the best use of our resources to benefit both students and staff. Together, we can maintain a sustainable, successful future for Azle ISD while preserving the heart of our community."
βI welcome Summer to Azle ISD and to our central office team,β said Superintendent Todd Smith. βShe comes to us with a firm knowledge and understanding of Texas public school funding, and I feel confident in her managing our district finances and leading our business office.β
