The UIL Young Filmmakers Festival is an annual statewide competition in Texas for students of UIL-member schools.

The competition provides eligible high school students with the opportunity to showcase their creativity through cinematic storytelling. The contest in entirely student-driven, with the films written, produced, filmed, directed, and edited entirely by students from start to finish. Students are given no required theme or prompt and are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to tell a compelling story through film.

The competition is structured like a tournament, with multiple rounds of judging leading up to the state finals.

Students are able to submit among 4 categories of films: Narrative, Documentary, Traditional Animation, and Digital Animation. Within those films, judges score based on originality, cinematic storytelling, and technical execution. The top films in each category are screened at the UIL State Festival, which is free and open to the public.
