Azle's Marching Green Pride Earns Superior Rating at UIL Contest

The Azle High School Marching Band earned a Division I rating at the UIL Region marching contest on October 12, 2021, at Saginaw High School. 

“The Road Not Taken” marching show received the top rating from all three judges, who evaluated both Class 5A and 6A groups in Region 30 of the Texas Music Educators Association. The rating allows the band to advance to Area competition on Saturday, October 23 at the Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletic Complex. 

Azle's marching ensemble also earned high marks at the Bands of America West Texas Regional Championship on October 2, advancing to finals in a field of mostly Class 6A groups. Azle also competed at the Golden Triangle Marching Contest on September 25 and placed third. 

Following the Area contest, Azle will compete in the BOA San Antonio Super Regional Championship on Saturday, November 6 at the Alamodome. 

Music for the fall marching show includes “Mishima” by Phillip Glass, “Liquid” by Jay Bocook, “Yellow” by Coldplay, and “Windsprints” by Richard Saucedo. 

Natalie Cain and Kayla Cockerline are drum majors. Also serving in band leadership positions are color guard captain Eliam Williams, color guard lieutenant Ashlie Lewis, brass captain Jhonathan Carmane, woodwind captain Holt Lee, and visual specialists Bailey Phillips and Katie Ingram. 

Section leaders are Diana Garcia, Kalea Cooper, flutes; Henry Lalonde, Alyssa Anderson, clarinets; Elli Garcia, saxophones and low reeds; Adam Ruelas, Lane Autrey, trumpets, Sam Graeber, mellophones; Ryan Wright, Andrew Roecker, trombones; Erika Clayton, euphoniums; Kylin Crofford, Sammy Reyes, tubas; and Jessica Scribner, Liz Feldman, Elyse Atwell, Isaiah Davidson, Reese Wethington, percussion.

The band is under the direction of Aaron Martin, Greg Davis, Michael Strange, Caleb Hunter, and Erin Boyer.
