Liberty Elementary celebrated Kindness Week March 1-5. Liberty’s counselor Melisa Owen coordinated events for the week and provided classroom teachers with an activity to do each day to promote kindness.
As part of Kindness Week, Mrs. Owen selected students in 3rd and 4th grade to be “Secret Agents of Kindness.” The students could choose spy sunglasses or special buttons (pins) to help identify them as a Secret Agent. During the week, the Secret Agents performed random acts of kindness such as drawing words of kindness on the sidewalks outside and putting treats in teachers’ boxes. At the end of the week, the Secret Agents received a Kindness Certificate making their Secret Agent duty official.
Mrs. Owen also reached out to the Principal at Goshen Creek Elementary in Springtown and asked if Liberty could bring their campus some treats as part of Kindness Week. Each class at Liberty made cards addressed to a class at Goshen and on Thursday, March 4, Mrs. Owen delivered the cards along with popsicles for every student at Goshen!
Throughout the week, Liberty students (and staff) were also given the opportunity to participate in dress-up days that went along with the Great Kindness Challenge.
Monday – Dreaming of Kindness (Wear PJs) Tuesday – Kindness Rocks (Dress like the Rock Star you are!) Wednesday – Community Kindness Heroes (Dress like a community helper) Thursday – You are never too old to be kind (Dress up like you are an old person) Friday – House of Kindness Wear your House Shirt or House Color.
