Baseball Senior Named WFAA Scholar Athlete of the Week
Azle High School senior Luke Smith was recently named Dale Hansen’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Due to the pandemic, Luke’s interview with Hansen was conducted via Skype. It will air on Sunday, December 6, during Hansen's Sports Special television program, which airs at 10:35 p.m. on Sundays on WFAA.
Smith has participated in baseball all four years that he has attended Azle High School and has maintained a 98.6 GPA. He also played basketball for two years and football for one.
He was a member of the AHS varsity baseball team that went two rounds deep in the playoffs in 2019 and was a starter on the 2020 baseball team which had a record of 10-3 when the season was cut short due to COVID. In 2019, Smith earned Academic All-District in baseball and was the No. 3 hitter in the state with a .636 average when the 2020 season ended.
Smith is a member of the National Honor Society and PALS at Azle High School and volunteers between 30-40 hours each year giving back to his community. He has also participated in Boy Scouts for the past 10 years, and earned his Eagle Scout badge in July of 2020.
He has signed an athletic scholarship to continue his baseball career at Seminole State College in 2021.
