Darren Brockway-Azle Police Chief

Childhood:

  • Born a 5th generation Texan in San Antonio, the middle child of three children (one sister and one brother). Moved to Round Rock, TX shortly after.
  • Went through Round Rock schools K-12. Graduated from Round Rock High School.

Education/Work:

  • Attended Sam Houston State University for two years. During this time, he attended and graduated from the Captain Clint Peoples Police Academy in Conroe, TX.
  • Darren took a couple of years off to have two daughters, Clarissa and Cayla.
  • Darren got hired by the Austin ISD Police Department, where he worked for nearly two years.
  • Darren then was hired by The Colony Police Department and moved his family to The Colony, where he remained for the last 27 years. Shortly after being hired by The Colony, Darren attended Midwestern State University.  Darren earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and graduated Magna Cum Laude. 
  • During Darren’s 27 year work history at The Colony Police Department, he served as a School Resource Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Investigations Lieutenant, Patrol Watch Commander, Public Information Officer, Special Events Coordinator, and Traffic Division Commander.
  • Also, while employed with The Colony Police Department, He attended and graduated from the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College at Sam Houston State University.
  • Darren holds a Masters Peace Officer License, Crime Prevention Inspector Certificate, Instructor’s License, and is a certified Rape Aggression Defense Instructor (RAD is a self-defense course for women only).

Family:

  • Darren’s wife, Katy is employed as a secretary for the Lewisville Independent School District.
  • Darren’s oldest daughter, Clarissa, graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a bachelor’s degree in Arts and Technology. She currently lives in New York and is the web designer for a world famous fashion designer.
  • Darren’s youngest daughter, Cayla, graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She is currently a Kindergarten teacher for the Frisco Independent School District.

Darren plans to commute to Azle for a few months, but plans on finding a home to purchase and reside in Azle.
