Azle ISD Names Director of Special Services
March 21, 2023
Azle ISD is pleased to announce that Krista MacFarlane, currently serving as Special Services Coordinator, has been selected to serve as the district’s Director of Special Services, replacing Gwen Shelton who will be retiring in June.
“Krista has been a wonderful asset to the Special Services Department,” said Superintendent Todd Smith.
MacFarlane has worked in education for 27 years, with all 27 years devoted to special education. She started her career at Hoover Elementary in 1995 as a special education teacher and worked there until 2003 when she took a position in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD. After working in EMS ISD for 13 years, McFarlane returned to Azle ISD in 2016 as an Autism Specialist.
She has served as a Special Services Coordinator for the last three years and is beyond excited to lead our Special Services Department.
“She truly has a servant’s heart for the children with special needs in our district and I know that she will ensure that all children with disabilities are receiving the services needed to become successful and productive citizens in our community when they graduate," said Director Gwen Shelton.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education from Texas Woman’s University and her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. McFarlane and her husband, Andrew, have a blended family of four children.
