Auto Tech Students Participate in NTX Auto Tech Competition
Azle High School Auto Tech students participated in the North Texas Automobile Dealers Auto Tech Competition on December 4, 2021. Held at the Indy Garage at Texas Motor Speedway, 25 teams from across North Texas competed for a chance at scholarships and professional industry tools to continue their career path.
Kamden Richey, Clay Barrett, and William Tunnell from AHS placed 15th out of 25 teams in the competition. Azle’s team partnered with Hiley Acura for the competition and students were trained by AHS Auto Tech Teacher Robert Herring with the assistance of Master Tech Joe Rangel.
Teams are selected based on preliminary ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification tests in Maintenance & Light Repair, Steering & Suspension, Brakes, and Electrical. The final teams are then paired with NTXAD new-car franchised dealerships to act as mentors and help train them for the competition.
The Auto Tech Competition gives high school seniors a high-profile stage to demonstrate their skills, measure of knowledge, and a race against the clock – all rolled into one. It features North Texas’ best high school automotive education students from across the country competing for top honors, scholarships, and other prizes.
