AHS Wrestlers Dominate at Regionals; 11 State-Bound

Azle High School wrestling teams had a great weekend at the Regional Wrestling Tournament in El Paso. A total of 11 Hornet wrestlers qualified for the State Tournament, which will be held February 18-19, in Cypress.

The Lady Hornets are Region 1-5A Team Champions with a total score of 133. Coach Megan House was named the Region 1-5A Head Girls Coach of the Year, making the Hornets’ victory even sweeter! 

Sophomore Alicen Dillard placed first in her weight class and was named Region 1 Girls Most Outstanding Wrestler. Pella LeFever also placed first in her weight class and Annabelle Davis placed third. Jacy Williams and Mariah Dillard both placed fourth.

Also contributing to the team score were Jazrine Nieto, who placed sixth, TJ Baily, and Kaitlynn Kirkland Lane.

The boys’ team placed third with a total score of 133, behind Dumas (177.5) and Randall (155).

Dominick Evans placed first in his weight class. Jackson Berg placed third and Kenneth Riley placed fourth. State Alternates include fifth-place finishers Landin Evans, Masen Martinez, and Braxton Cates.

Also contributing to the team score were Lane Williams, Oliver Lorenz, Hunter Legan, Elias Ramirez, and Billy Spratt.
