Two AHS Students Advance to Texas Association of Future Educators State Competition
February 9, 2022
Azle High School students Alexis Scroggins and Anna Latta recently competed in the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) Area 10 Competition and have both qualified to compete in the TAFE State Competition, which will be held March 3-5, 2022.
TAFE members are comprised of students in the Education Program of Study. The Texas Association of Future Educators or TAFE is a co-curricular statewide non-profit (501 c3) student organization created to allow young men and women an opportunity to explore the teaching profession.
Anna Latta competed in the State Competitive Event: Portfolio. The Portfolio State Competitive Event is meant to assist TAFE members in compiling a dynamic record of their qualifications, experiences, and professional growth. In this event, members prepare a portfolio in hard copy or electronic format. Following the contest guidelines, students will bring a hard copy to the Region (State) contest or make a digital copy of the portfolio accessible to the judges on a laptop via a web-based format or flash drive. Members will give an oral presentation that provides an overview of the sections, summarizing the student’s skills and experiences.
Alexis Scoggins competed in the National Competitive Event: Lesson Planning and Delivery Competitions - Humanities. This competition challenges young educators to plan and deliver a lesson of their choosing to an actual classroom of students. Subject areas eligible for this competition include English Language Arts and Social Studies (including civics and government, economics, history, and geography). Self-reflection following the lesson is an essential component of this competition; a clear-eyed evaluation of what you’ve done is the best way to learn and make wise choices in the future. The humanities encourage thoughtful exploration of ideas and expression and are critical to individual identity and collective culture.
