Health Occupation Students Advance to State Competition

January 31, 2022

On Saturday, January 29, nine Azle High School students competed in the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) Area 5 Spring Leadership Conference in Killeen.

To qualify for this competition, HOSA students took online tests in December over various healthcare areas and advanced to Area competition based on scores from those tests.

Seven AHS students advanced to the HOSA State Leadership Conference which will be held in Galveston in April.

Lauryn Rasco placed 3rd in Nursing Assisting, Chloe Jones placed 3rd in Sports Medicine, and Reeslyn Bice placed 3rd in Veterinary Science. Senior Micheal Saline, Elle Coleman, Zoe Weaver, and Layne Goley all advanced to State in Health Care Issues.

The following students also competed in the Area competition: Haylee Allphin, Nursing Assisting; Bri Cochran, Home Health Aide; Elle Coleman, Prepared Speaking; Brenton Estes, Researched Persuasive Writing & Speaking; Logan Leach, Kadin Kunkleman, and Michael Saline, Medical Innovation.

Competing at the State level is a first in HOSA-Azle Chapter history. Advisors Tiffany Shaw and Jimmy Rider are incredibly proud of how this group performed in their events and for how well they represented Azle High School.

Congratulations to all of these students! #WeAreAzle
