Ms. Kriss Meeker

I am starting my 17th year of teaching. I changed careers late in life. I was in the music business as a publicist, I worked in television, and I wrote and produced radio commercials prior to going into education. I have 3 children- Lacy is a stay at home mom and is married to Caleb, a music minister at a church in Lakeland, Florida. They have 3 children. Sparrow is 5, Laylah is 3 (she became officially a part of the Lain Family in 2020), and Israel is 3. My son, Landon works for JRJ Construction in Weatherford, and his wife, Missy, is Jerry Durant's personal assistant. They welcomed 2 beautiful, healthy girls into this world on July 4th, 2020. Their arrival gave me grandbaby #5 and #6!!!  My youngest, Libby is the Women's Minister at our church, and her husband, Joseph, is the audio/visual person at our church. They have a 5-year-old daughter, Harlow, who will begin 1st grade this year, and my 7th grandbaby, Joan (Harlow's baby sister) was born on September 17th this year.  I love teaching!! It truly is my passion. But, seven years ago, it was trumped by this "grandma" thing. I love my grandbabies!! When I'm not at school, I find a way to spend time with them. I taught Science for 11 years and started a new adventure four years ago. I taught STEAM for four years, which was very similar to a Pre-Engineering class. I absolutely loved it. My hope was to inspire my students to pursue a career in one of the many engineering careers available to them. My students inspired me!!

Last year, a new challenge has come my way, and I accepted!!!  I taught three new classes. I taught 8th graders, and each of the classes gave students  the opportunity to earn a high school credit. This year I will just be teaching 2 classes - Fundamentals of Computer Science and Principles of Art, Audio/Video Technology Communications. I am very excited about each of these. Fundamentals of Computer Science gives students the opportunity to learn how to code, which is computer programming.  And, my AAVTC gives me an opportunity to re-visit many things I did in my Radio/TV career.  Students will learn about visual arts, film, theater, and the fashion industry.
