Communicable Disease Chart & Notes for Schools/Child-Care Centers

  • As the new school year is approaching, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) would like to provide you with an updated “Communicable Disease Chart & Notes for Schools and Childcare Centers”. The chart may be found on the DSHS website at https://dshs.texas.gov/IDCU/health/schools_childcare/School-Health.aspx. The updated chart includes new information about exclusion and readmission criteria for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Children with COVID-19 should not attend school in person during their most infectious period: for at least five days after symptoms begin and until they have been without a fever for at least 24-hours without taking fever-reducing medication and all other symptoms are improving. Children who test positive for COVID-19 but are not experiencing any symptoms should not attend school for five days from the date of the positive test.

If you have any questions about COVID-19, please contact eaidu-coronavirus@dshs.texas.gov.
