Racial Profiling Information
In 2001, the Texas Legislature passed a law prohibiting "Racial Profiling." Police officers may not take any enforcement-initiating action based on an individual's race, ethnicity, or national origin rather than on the individual's behavior or on information identifying the individual as having engaged in criminal activity. "Race or Ethnicity" is defined as a person's particular descent, including Caucasian, African, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American.
"Racial Profiling" by officers is strictly prohibited by the Azle ISD Police Department. Officers who violate this policy are subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination. Complaints alleging "Racial Profiling" are investigated in an expedient manner.

When a citizen lodges a complaint against a member of the Azle ISD Police Department, it is investigated by the Chief of Police. In addition, District Administration is notified and kept apprised of all investigations. Texas law requires that all complaints against police officers must be in writing and signed by the person making the complaint. Just as citizens who are arrested must be notified of the charges against them, police officers must be given a copy of the complaint before any disciplinary action may be taken. Complaints must be made within 60 days of the alleged racial profiling incident, except in special cases (such as criminal misconduct or when good cause can be shown by the person making the complaint). Complaints must be made by the person aggrieved (wronged). Other persons may give statements as witnesses.
