Ray Lea was named Superintendent of Schools at Azle Independent School District on November 20, 2008 by the AISD Board of Trustees. With more than 30 years of experience in public education, Dr. Lea started his teaching career at Whitesboro. He served as a middle school principal, elementary principal and assistant superintendent for curriculum prior to entering the superintendency. He served as superintendent at Poteet, Alvord, Whitewright and Whitesboro before coming to Azle. Dr. Lea has served on several committees including the UIL regional boards for academic, athletics, and music. School districts have seen academic improvements and increased ranking on the state accountability rankings under his leadership. Originally from Gainesville, Texas, Dr. Lea earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from the University of North Texas. His wife, Margaret has also worked as a special education teacher, speech therapist, diagnostician and special education director for over 30 years in the state of Texas. They have four grown children, Matt, Gina, Brian, Brandon, son-in-law Jim, daughter-in-law Stephanie and two grandchildren; Garrett age 11 and Abbey age 1. |
Dr. Ray Lea About Superintendent's Office Welcome to the Office of the Superintendent for the Azle Independent School District. Azle has long supported the efforts of the school district to provide a quality education to every child. While striving for top rankings from the Texas Education Agency, Azle ISD believes that we must educate the entire child instead of just preparing them to pass state mandated testing. This educational process has produced a state recognized district with one exemplary and nine recognized campuses. The district encourages site-based decision making whenever possible and the Office of the Superintendent exists to support the efforts of all teachers, faculty, parents and community members in making the school system the best it can be.
